What are dermal fillers, and how do they work?
Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore lost volume, smooth fine lines, and enhance facial contours. Most fillers are made with hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the skin that attracts moisture and provides structure. When injected into specific areas of the face, fillers can plump, lift, and rejuvenate, creating a more youthful and balanced appearance without surgery.
How long do dermal fillers last?
The longevity of filler results depends on the area treated, the type of product used, and individual metabolism. On average:
Lip filler lasts 6–9 months
Midface, chin, and jawline filler lasts 12–18 months
Tear trough filler lasts about 9–12 months
Nasolabial and marionette filler lasts 9–15 months
Over time, the body gradually metabolizes the product. Maintenance appointments help sustain optimal results.
What can I expect during a filler appointment?
Your appointment will begin with a thorough consultation, where your provider assesses your facial anatomy, discusses your goals, and creates a customized treatment plan. A topical numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort. The injections themselves take about 15–30 minutes depending on the treatment area. You’ll receive post-care instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
Does dermal filler hurt?
Most clients find filler treatments very tolerable. We use a strong topical anesthetic to numb the area beforehand, and many fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing agent that provides additional comfort during the injection process. You may feel slight pressure or a pinch, but the procedure is generally quick and comfortable.
Is there downtime after getting filler?
Downtime is minimal. Some clients experience temporary swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site, which typically subsides within a few days. We recommend avoiding intense exercise, alcohol, and excessive sun exposure for 24–48 hours post-treatment. Most clients return to work or daily activities the same day.
Can dermal filler be reversed if I don’t like the results?
Yes. If you’ve received a hyaluronic acid-based filler, it can be safely dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This treatment breaks down the filler quickly and is commonly used to correct asymmetry, overfilling, or unwanted results—especially from treatments done elsewhere. How much filler will I need?
Every face is different, and filler needs vary based on facial structure, treatment goals, and age. Some clients may need only 0.5–1 syringe, while others benefit from multiple syringes for more global rejuvenation. When will I see results, and how natural will they look?
Results are visible immediately after your filler is placed, although some swelling may temporarily affect the final look. Most clients see their full, settled results within 7–14 days.
